AS 2019 BATCH B STREAM 1 CORP MEMBERS EXIT THE NYSC
The National Youths Service Corps was birth after the civil war by the Military administration of the then head of state General Yakubu Gowon on 22nd of May 1973, specifically, to heal the wounds of the civil war. Since its establishment, 47 years ago, young Nigerians have embraced the scheme over the years and have used the platform provided by the service to bring development to their respective communities of deployment.
I'm particularly elated, that the service year ended successfully for these industrious and indefatigable young men and women of our country. Your sacrifices to your fatherland are very much appreciated and can never be quantified. The communities you diligently served are not unmindful of your contributions.
Corp members travel hundreds of miles to states and communities they have never been, they are greeted with culture shock, and a new environment they ain't comfortable settling in. Yet, for one year, these young Nigerians leave these communities better than they met them. Through the collaboration of relevant Non governmental organizations, government agencies and other spirited individuals, they build blocks of classrooms, provide pipe borne water, organize health outreaches, and even construct feeder roads and embark on other developmental projects for their host communities.
Our greatest asset as nation lies in our youthful population. Nigeria may not be the best place to be a young person, but just as you have successfully come out of your service year unscathed, so shall your post service years.
For you to survive and seamlessly fit into the labour market for those who would seek for unavailable jobs and those who would chose the part of entrepreneurship. You must not only think outside the box, but must be proactive. You must continue to learn, embark on personal development, sharpen and improve your skills, be willing to build collaborations and you must maintain your NYSC contacts, never lose them. At every step in life you would need them.
The call to service may have legally come to a halt today, for 2019 batch b stream 1 Corp members, but continue to serve your fatherland as much as you can, because the service to one's country never ends. Your input is highly needed to solve the myriad of problems and political malfeasance that have held us backward as a nation. You cannot afford to fail in this regards.
Congratulations!!!
