AS MUSLIMS MARK EID FITR
Muslims all over the world celebrate the Eid Fitr to mark the end of the Ramadan fast and it is celebrated on the 1st day of shawwal, according to the Islamic calendar. As Muslim faithfuls mark this year's Eid even in the midst of covid 19, we should use this opportunity to pray for our dear nation and extend our hands of love to our neighbors, friends and well wishers.
As we celebrate this feast, let's not be carried away by the fun fare that comes with it and disregard the covid 19 guidelines. For muslims in Kano State and other locations where the lockdown was relaxed to enable them attend the Eid prayers, they must reciprocate this kind gesture by strictly adhering to the government's directive on social distancing, wearing of face masks, washing of hands and use of hand sanitizers. We must not endanger the lives of family and community.
The Nigerian muslim community must use this moment as a sober reflection and ensure that their actions, and daily lives are guided by the teachings of the Quran and the sunnah of the prophet Muhammad PBUH. Every blessed day that we witness is testament that we are an inch closer to our graves. Let's be guided please, the mundane of this world can never be compared to Akhira (blissful hereafter). As muslims, we should stop embezzling public funds and spend it on hajj and umrah in saudi Arabia, we should not feast on the inheritance of orphans and we must never bear false witness no matter the pressure we are subjected.
In the spirit of the celebration, let us sit and reflect, and use the occasion to right our wrongs, get closer to Allah, and become better muslims. Nigeria is a very religious country, but even as we virtually sleep in mosques and churches, we do not fear God, our Iman is the lowest. A Nigerian can come back from Hajj, resume work the next week, and boom! He steals a Billion naira from public purse. We should practice what we preach, because no matter how we pretend. Allah is all seeing and all knowing.
