Image
Elections are conducted to choose leaders who will represent the people at different levels of government. In less than 48 hours, Edo state, the heart beat of Nigeria will go to the polls to elect a governor for the state. Tensions are high, party faithfuls have canvassed for their various candidates, mega rallies held and various civil society groups mobilized.  The various parties and the leading candidates, Governor Godwin Obaseki of the PDP and Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu of the APC have rolled out their manifestos and programs for the state. We have heard different campaign songs entertain us on air, no doubt, every stakeholder has participated in the whole process.  Edo people have heard your message, and come 19th September, Edolites will send out signal to the world how well they have decoded your message. As we match to the polls, let our voting reflect the mood of our dear state, we must vote our various candidates in an ambience devoid of rancor and violence.  As w...

AS EDOLITES GO TO THE POLLS

Image
Few days to Edo Elections. Alot of my acquaintances, friends and even critics on social media have inundated me with calls as regards where my pendulum of support would swing between the two leading political parties, the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress. Both parties are the only registered parties that have ever gotten the opportunity to pilot the affairs of the state since the new political dispensation.  In recent times, I have watched from afar how politics has played out in my dear state, and how heated the campaigns have been. Boths parties, their supporters and the leading candidates have crisscrossed every nook and cranny of the state to canvass for votes. We must commend both camps for carrying out this onus responsibility in an ambience devoid of violence, thuggery and intimidation. As we are about to elect a new leadership in our state, let us be aware, that bad leadership and governance does not know brother, sister, or town's men. If an Auchi m...

TACKLING DIVERSION BY REVENUE GENERATING AGENCIES

The situation at the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), as reflected in its recent presentation to the Senate’s Joint Committee on Finance and Planning, represents the corruption, mismanagement and ineptitude in virtually all federal revenue-generating agencies. The DPR, one of the agencies that have failed to remit good money to the Federation Account as expected, was queried by the Senate for sending a meagre N44.5 billion into the Consolidated Revenue Fund out of the N2.4 trillion it generated in 2019. The situation at the DPR is mind-boggling . The agency’s Head of Planning, Mr. Johnson Ajewole, who stood in for his DG, Sarki Auwalu, during the enquiry at the Senate, confirmed the frightening gap between what was realised and what they remitted. The DPR management deducted N88 billion from the N2.4 trillion generated last year as 4 per cent approved collection fee. A monstrous N88 billion as cost of collection in one year? I wonder who approved this. The DPR could not e...

WHY WE SHOULD INVEST IN CRYPTOCURRENCIES

Image
Having emerged as a digital alternative to more traditional methods of exchange like cash or credit cards, cryptographic or cryptocurrencies have also generated alternative points of view. On the one hand, there’s the school of thought which sees cryptocurrencies as a financial medium for  fraudsters, terrorists, and criminals  – especially given their involvement in ransomware scams, and in trading on the Dark Web. On the other hand, recent upsurges in the value of Bitcoin have established cryptocurrency as a viable investment which – with the positive hype surrounding the blockchain technology that backs it up – can have a positive impact on the wallets and trading practices of mainstream investors, worldwide. In this article, we’ll be looking at the more positive aspects and  advantages of cryptocurrency , and considering the plus points that make it a workable alternative to more established forms of financial trade. Advantages of Cryptocurrency 1. Transactions...

NOW THAT NIGERIA IS POLIO FREE

Image
Poliomyelitis is an infectious disease caused by the polio virus. it literally causes the muscles weakness and in most times results in inability of victims most especially young people to walk. For decades, Nigeria and the rest of Africa have battled this disease without and in sight. This is partly due to the expletive tendencies of our health policies in solving our health challenges.    It would be fiendish and illogical if we blame government and her institutions alone for the endemic polio disease that has ravaged  our country in years and negatively swayed the future of millions of kids notably in Northern Nigeria. According to the   International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies,  Nigeria’s northern states are the last reservoir of naturally occurring wild polio virus in Africa.  The states of Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Kaduna, Kano and Katsina, are especially at high risk, mainly due to the mobile nature of the population. This me...

ISLAM CORNER: QUR’AN RECITATION AND ITS SUPERIORITY- TO RECITE THE QUR’AAN QUICKLY AND READ A LOT, OR RECITE SLOWLY, LESS AND PONDER?

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) stated in Zaadul Ma’aad that the scholars hold a difference of opinion regarding whether it is better to recite the Qur’aan at a slow pace and recite less; or whether to recite fast and recite a lot. After transmitting the different views held by both group of scholars, the Imaam stated that what is correct to say about this affair is that the reward for reciting slowly and pondering (upon its meanings) is of loftier and higher status, and the reward for reciting a lot carries more reward in number.  The first (i.e. reciting slowly and pondering) is like one who gave a tremendous gem (jewel) in charity or frees a slave whose price is very valuable. The second (i.e. the one who recites quickly and a lot) is like one who gives a lot of Daraahim (i.e. money) in charity or frees a number of slaves whose price is expensive. Then the Imaam stated that it has been reported in S...

LETTER TO EDOLITES, AS THEY GO TO THE POLLS

Image
Dear Edo State Indigene,   I want to believe you understand the dividend of democracy, good governance and the role it plays to bring about change in the growth and development of a State. Take a stock of all the past governors with no exceptions to your beloved Chief Lucky Igbenedion, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and Godwin Obaseki; these administrations have never in any way contribute evidently to improve the lives of the people and the GROWTH of Edo Sate.   There is a reason Edo state is called the heart beat of the nation "HEART" beat; meaning the LIVE line of Nigeria, if Edo State is to shut its boarders now, will Nigeria feel any impact? Can we self-sustain ourselves? Will industries feel any form of decline, are we in anyway contributing irreplaceable value to Nigeria's economy? What are we known for? How are we scaling that to improve the lives of the people? There has been a constant increase of graduates from the prestigious ...

NIGERIA TODAY" WHERE DID WE GO WRONG? WHAT WENT WRONG? AND WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CURRENT STATE OF OUR DEAR NATION?

Image
When the Northern and Southern protectorates of Nigeria Was Amalgamated In 1914 by the British colonialists and imperialists, the country Christined Nigeria, despite her numerous contraptions and multi ethnic dimensions, was set on the part of growth and prosperity even when the motives of the imperialists were not in tandem with that of the new nation. The territory called Nigeria, before the demonic Berlin conference of 1884, where Africa was balkanized, was adorned with the strongest kingdoms and empires ever seen by mankind with their own political and indigenous knowledge systems which propelled these autonomous states to enviable heights. The Benin Empire, the Oyo Empire, the Borno Empire, the Saurata Emirates in the North and the Eastern quasi-federal units; where evidence of thriving nations. For forty six years, from 1914 to 1960 when the British held sway, Nigeria was set on a solid foundation economically. The Eastern Railway was built to Port Harcourt between 19...

CHRISTIAN CORNER: WHY YOU MUST KEEP PREPARING

God blesses us through our ability to observe, capture and make the most of opportunities that He brings our ways.  *But what's The Caveat?*  It's how prepared and sharpened your senses of discernment are, that will determine the extent you maximize these opportunities.   *Remember!*  Heb.5.14 - But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.  ```Today's challenge```  How prepared and sharpened are your senses of discernment?    *Quote for the day.*  The level to which your senses have been exercised, determines how much strong meat (opportunities ) will belong to you. RUN YOUR RACE, EVERYTHING MOVE WITH TIME

Image
It is a mistake to think time is going. Time is not going. Time is here until the world ends. It is you that is going. You don’t waste time. Time is infinite. You waste yourself. You are finite. It is you that grows old and die. Time doesn’t. So make better use of yourself before you expire. And one of the worst things to do with time is comparing yourself to others.  A cow eats grass and gets fat but if dog eats grass, it will die. Never compare yourself with others. Run your race. What works for one person may be that which will kill you. Focus on the gifts and talents God gave you and don’t be envious of the blessings He gave others. Both Lion and Shark are professional hunters, but Lion cannot hunt in the Ocean and a Shark cannot hunt in the jungle. That a Lion cannot hunt in the ocean doesn't make him useless and that a Shark cannot hunt in the jungle doesn't also make him useless, both have their own territory where they can do well. If a rose smells better than tomatoes,...

CHRISTIAN CORNER: WHAT IS YOUR CALLING?

Image
Monday! Is the first day of the work week, normally it should be a great day but sadly it's one of the worst day for many people. Why? Most people don't like Mondays because they don't like their jobs. Most people are at their various workplace, simply because they couldn't find something better or because it pays their bills.  Only, very few people in life actually love their jobs and this is the reason for most of the unproductivity we see from most employees. So but why do these people hate their jobs? Because deep inside them, they know this isn't a what they were created for or they were made for more than what they are doing. This emptiness or feeling is the reason why most people don't like their jobs. That's why, you can start with a job but don't end with a job. You need to find your calling. What's the difference between your Job and calling? Your job is what you are paid to do, your calling is what you were made to do. Your job is a me...

ISLAM CORNER: TO RIDICULE A PERSON'S RACE OR COLOUR IS RIDICULING THEIR CREATOR

Image
To Ridicule, a Person’s Race or Colour is Ridiculing Their Creator | Explained by Shaykh Al Albaani Assalamu alaikum Muslim brothers and sisters in Islam. May Allah make our task easier for us Dunya wa Akhirah. Today’s enlightenment will be on racism explained by Shayk Al Albani.  Bismillah  Shaykh Al Albaani: Thus we say this thing is repulsive, while we know it is the creation of Allah. And we know the person who is a created being does not possess in his hand any choice in the matter. Thus however can we find him repulsive? Thus a white man and this occurs amongst the disbelievers will deem a black man to be repulsive; his appearance, his statue, his nose, his lips and the like. And in contrast, perhaps you will find a black man, who deems a white man to be repulsive, declaring him to be a leper; while he is not a leper but rather he is extremely white. Whether it is the white man laughing at and mocking the black man, or the black man laughing at and mocking the white ma...

OBSERVANCE OF THE MISSED DAYS OF  RAMADAAN  BEFORE THE OBSERVANCE OF  THE SIX FAST OF SHAWWAL (BY THE WOMEN) "As-salamualaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh”. Beloved readers and commenters May Allah ease our affairs here in this world and the life to come (Aamiin). Well, today we gonna be cross examining  a little breach of understanding on the issue of whether to pay the missed days of fasting during the month of Ramadan before commemorating it with the six from the month of Shawwal or commemorating it with the six from the month of Shawwal before paying back the missed fast from Ramadan. May Allah accept this effort from us the composer and you as the readers. بسم الله Bismillah May Allah bless you and your family with Guidance and Istiqaamah, that the position held by the Maliki, Shaafi'i and Hanbali Schools (in accordance with one of the narrations from Imam Ahmad) is that it is permissible for a woman who has missed some days in Ramadaan to delay its Compensation ...

AS 2019 BATCH B STREAM 1 CORP MEMBERS EXIT THE NYSC

Image
The National Youths Service Corps was birth after the civil war by the Military administration of the then head of state General Yakubu Gowon on 22nd of May 1973, specifically, to heal the wounds of the civil war. Since its establishment, 47 years ago, young Nigerians have embraced the scheme over the years and have used the platform provided by the service to bring development to their respective communities of deployment.  I'm particularly elated, that the service year ended successfully for these industrious and indefatigable young men and women of our country. Your sacrifices to your fatherland are very much appreciated and can never be quantified. The communities you diligently served are not unmindful of your contributions.  Corp members travel hundreds of miles to states and communities they have never been, they are greeted with culture shock, and a new environment they ain't comfortable settling in. Yet, for one year, these young Nigerians leave these communities bett...

Image
PART 1 The author Robert kiyosaki is renewed for his works, rich dad poor dad series. Kiyosaki developed several multi million dollars businesses and retired at the age of 47. He dedicated his retirement to helping people build wealth and live the lives of their dreams.  He is a best selling author,  and a social entrepreneur. THE RULES HAVE CHANGED Kiyosaki explicitly outlined how the global economy is tremendously being transformed from its reliability and inconsistency, riddled with outsourcing, downsizing, foreclosures, subprime mortgages, credit default swaps, ponzi schemes, wall street fiasco, recession among others. He also emphasized the the rising scenario of unemployment in the United states which stood at 10.2 % as at 2009 and how most Jobs and investments that were earlier termed as secured are scrubling before our very eyes.  Also in a survey in  the United  States, 60% of Americans polled that ...
